AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Educator 1

*Member Position Summary* The 4-H Environmental Educator AmeriCorps Members will deliver educational activities to the youth through experiential, hands-on learning, Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles and support the program they are assigned to.
Members will support summer day camp activities and implement a new environmental literacy curriculum.
*Descriptions of Duties* Primary Functions: - Assist with the planning, implementation, and teaching of NSHE 4-H Day Camp, School based field study programming, and Outdoor Education SPIN clubs using PYD lesson plans comprising theme-based activities that capitalize on the unique natural setting of the surrounding communities.
Including natural and cultural history topics such as Animals, Plants, Water, Ecosystems, etc.
that allow children to experience the outdoors through discovery-based, STEM education.
- Assist in implementation of the NSHE 4-H Day Camp and Outdoor Education and School Field Studies (school field trips) to ensure the success and safety of these programs.
School Break Camps include hands-on games, hikes, educational activities, teambuilding, field trips, guest presenters, exploration and play.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with students/campers, parents, educators, staff, chaperones, and fellow members, in both English and Spanish (preferred).
- Assist with programming.
Includes planning, scheduling, educating, execution, and evaluation.
- Assist in training and coordinating with educators, chaperones, and staff.
- Serve and interact with a diverse youth population in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Serve flexible hours with occasional weekends and frequent evening work.
- Present clear, well-organized educational programs that exemplify professional delivery, thematic development, and cohesive structure that are consistently appropriate for the activity and the audience.
- Keep accurate records and documentation of service via timesheets.
- Enter data into data management system by due dates.
- Enforce policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to youth outdoor education.
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies.
Secondary functions: - Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Be flexible and serve under limited supervision with independent judgment at times.
- Plan and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Develop relationships to enhance and contribute to organizational and program effectiveness.

- Experience in delivering environmental education programming.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in customer service.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Experience working with K-12 students.
- Able to serve in harsh and rapidly changing environments, and in all types of weather conditions.
- Comfortable serving a varied schedule where some days are longer than 8 hours and some are shorter.
- Looking for applicants who are flexible, adaptable, and optimistic.
*Eligibility requirements:* (a) Eligibility.
An AmeriCorps participant must— (1)(i) Be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service; or (ii) Be an out-of-school youth 16 years of age at the commencement of service participating in a program described in §2522.
110(b)(3) or (g); (2)(i) Have a high school diploma or its equivalent; or _(ii)_ Not have dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant and must agree to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award; or _(iii)_ Obtain a waiver from the Corporation of the requirements in paragraphs (a)(2)(i) and (a)(2)(ii) of this section based on an independent evaluation secured by the program demonstrating that the individual is not capable of obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent; or _(iv)_ Be enrolled in an institution of higher education on an ability to benefit basis and be considered eligible for funds under section 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.
S.
C.
1091); (3) Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
(4) Conform to AmeriCorps Dress code (5) Complete a National Service Criminal History Check *Benefits:* The Reduced Half-Time Segal Education Award being offered for successful completion of the term of service is $2,626.
27 and the living allowance the member will earn is $13,376 for the term of service.
