Adventist Health Tulare joined Adventist Health in the Central Valley in 2018, with 101 beds and other vital services for Tulare residents and the surrounding rural communities of Tulare County.
Our Birth Center opened in August 2019 and will be followed by a new rural health clinic in 2020.
Job Summary:
Performs specimen extractions, accessioning and aliquoting of samples.
Prepares all samples for testing.
Maintains inventory of supplies.
Monitors temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and heat blocks.
Performs front office duties as needed.
Updates and maintains all necessary logs for the facility.
Travels to various agencies and detention centers and obtains samples using proper phlebotomy techniques.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Accredited Phlebotomy training: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Phlebotomy Technician CPT I or CPT II or National Healthcareer Association phlebotomy certification (CPT-NHA) or National Center for Competency phlebotomy certification (CPT-NCCT): Required in CA; Preferred in OR and HI
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
Phlebotomy Tech (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician II (CPTII) or NHA Certified Phlebotomy Tech (CPT-NHA) or Phlebotomy Tech-NCCT (NCCT-CPT): Required
Essential Functions:
Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
Collects, processes, and preserves specimens.
Performs clerical duties to process and report test results.
Prioritize based on order status (STAT, ASAP, routine).
Performs blood collection to include adult venipuncture, neonate venipuncture and heel stick and special testing such as bleeding time, blood cultures, etc.
Travels to various agencies and detention centers and obtains samples using proper phlebotomy techniques.
Verifies specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type/volume for the indicated testing.
Processes samples using aseptic technique and prepares required paperwork for appropriate testing and reference lab testing.
Confers with patients to obtain information for laboratory records and to explain procedures.
Ensures all specimens are properly labeled and meet specimen requirements.
Resolves and documents labeling discrepancies according to policy.
Processes and maintains records of specimens sent to reference labs.
Documents all laboratory tests and results appropriately on logs and patient records per requirements.
Assists in inventory management including ordering supplies and stocking supplies.
Monitors temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and heat blocks.
Performs front office duties as needed.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
