Benefits Eligible Full-Time Benefit Eligible Work Shift Variable (United States of America) Department 7643 SRCC Rad Onc-Visalia The Clinical Radiation Physicist is a unique and highly educated position that has a critical responsibility in terms of any radiation related service line in our organization.
As the physicist, is the Radiation Safety officer, and is responsible for the delivery and quality of our therapy delivery, the oversight of radioactive materials used diagnostically or therapeutically, as well as any piece of equipment that emits radiation.
The Clinical Radiation Physicist is aware of all activities and regulatory compliances of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and is well versed in state and all government regulations.
License /Certification Required:Certified by American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physicists (ABMP) with specialty in one of the following: diagnostic radiological physics, radiological physics or diagnostic imaging physics.
Preferred:N/A Education Required:Minimum of three years experience in radiation physics.
Preferred:N/A Testing N/A Experience Required:N/A Preferred:N/A Knowledge/Skills/Abilities N/A Department Specific Requirements N/A Essential Analyzes beam data to fit patient's treatment plan and procedures.
Verifies that radiation-producing machines and equipment are regularly tested and maintained properly to ensure the constancy of radiation delivered to the patient and compliance with State and Federal statutes.
Verifies all prescription calculations and notifies physician of any discrepancy.
Participates in the development of Radiation Oncology treatment protocols.
Advises, performs, and supervises treatment planning and dosimetry.
Serves as mentor to dosimetrist by advising and assisting in meeting his/her job objectives.
Assists in interpretation of dosimetry data necessary for participation in local and national treatment protocols.
Utilizes CT information to accurately generate a reasonable, clinically acceptable treatment plan considering dose limiting structures while achieving optimum tumor volume coverage.
Performs specific dose calculations on individual patients upon request.
Performs TLD service as required.
Provides consultation to medical staff of the physical aspects of the treatment plan.
Supervises radiation safety and all technical aspects of the center's brachytherapy program.
Provides staff with in-service education and continuing education lectures relating to radiation safety and the implementation of new techniques or procedures.
Functions as a resource person.
As Radiation Safety Officer, coordinates Radiation Safety services for the entire Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology treatment center sites and Kaweah Health.
Active involvement in the design of Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology treatment center sites to ensure radiation safety requirements are met.
Ensures the Radiation Safety section of the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Administrative services manual is always current.
Conducts quarterly review and inspection of radioactive materials for all the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center Radiation Oncology treatment center sites.
Performs acceptance testing of equipment.
Maintains performance specifications and establishes baseline values for quality control programs.
Recommends the acquisition of new equipment or machine to the Medical Director and Practice Manager based on cost/effectiveness data.
Applies for state license and ensures compliance to state and federal regulations pertaining to the use of accelerators and sealed sources.
Maintains patient privacy, patient identity, and patient confidentiality, and personnel information on current and former staff members.
Must be aware of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Addendum (essential for specific dept) Additional Participates in research activities and provides technical assistance as needed.
Participates in chart rounds.
Participates in Quality Improvement studies.
Attends staff meetings.
Ability to discern when to seek assistance in order to provide quality patient care and meet centers' patient care objectives.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs.
Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
