This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Sheriff’s Department.
The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.

This position requires shift work, including working nights and weekends.
The Sheriff’s Department will perform a background check on all candidates.
Typical Duties Receive legal documents and other correspondence for filing and recording, including warrants, restraining orders, criminal histories, and fingerprint cards; receive and process applications for weapon permits and various County licenses; fingerprint applicants for various permits and licenses; research criminal files for subpoena; process warrants and restraining orders, including typing, inputting data into automated systems, sending teletypes, and routing to appropriate law enforcement agency; research, compile, and analyze statistical and other data for the Department and other public, State and Federal agencies; respond to requests for a variety of information from attorneys, local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies, the general public, and other County departments; review legal documents for completeness and conformity with Government Codes and interpret legal documents-to a limited degree-upon request; determine confidentiality of documents and provide agencies with various reports and information; complete and process documentation of individuals required to register under certain Penal Codes and Health and Safety Codes; collect and process payment for fees; operate a variety of office automation equipment; update and maintain logs, lists, and records; and may train volunteers and new employees assigned to the unit.

Employment Standards Education: Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing legal clerical duties in a legal office, criminal justice agency, or related field.
Knowledge of: English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; math sufficient to perform fractions, decimals and percentages; alphabetical, numerical, and legal filing systems and procedures; more complex legal terminology, documents, and procedures used in County legal or criminal justice departments.
Skill/Ability to: Organize work, set priorities, and work independently on assigned areas; perform work with accuracy and attention to detail; type accurately, input data and information into automated systems; read, understand, and explain government codes, ordinances, and laws; prepare reports, charts, lists, and other special documents; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; operate office automation and related equipment; ability to lift 25 pounds.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Must type accurately at a speed of 45 corrected wpm.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience - Specialized legal secretarial and/or paralegal training.
Additional Information Conditions of Employment Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
An Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some positions.
Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
College Cost Reduction Access Act This may be a qualifying position for student loan forgiveness through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA).
Only student loan payments made after October 1, 2007 and in a qualified repayment plan are eligible.

Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 50 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.
Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.
Disability Insurance: Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance.
The premium is paid by the employee.
Deferred Compensation: A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
