This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies for those County departments that have this position.
The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.

Current vacancy is with Tulare County Library located in possible assignments at any of the Library’s locations in Alpaugh, Earlimart, Lindsay, Pixley, Springville, Strathmore, Terra Bella, and Tipton.
Applications will be reviewed by the Library as extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available.
The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment.
Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area.
Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June.
An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee.

Typical Duties
Provide high quality customer service to the general public in person, online, and over the phone; Perform work alone or with others depending on project or location; Perform a wide variety of specialized and general clerical duties related to assigned functional area; Perform library circulation duties including checking library materials in and out and answering basic reference questions; Assist the public in the use of the library and library technology; Collect fees, make change, use a cash register, and prepare deposits; Perform data processing primarily to issue, receive, and process library cards; Organize, handle, and distribute books, library materials, supplies, and other items; Provide basic library services assisting patrons in the use of collections and resources; Perform a wide variety of routine work including filing, shelving, shelf reading, lifting, unpacking, and pushing and pulling carts; Perform a variety of supportive office functions including receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence; Provide basic information on department policies and procedures; Operate a variety of office equipment and tools, including computers; Maintain confidentiality of library patron information obtained in the course of work; Substitute at branches both short and long term, at times with same day notice; Assist with outreach programs; Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education:
At least 16 years of age and completion of the tenth (10th) grade.
Knowledge of:
English language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Alphabetical and numerical filing systems such as the Dewey Decimal System; Basic math including fractions, decimals, and percentages; Customer services practice; How to use a library; Basic office software, computers, and equipment.
Skill/Ability to:
Communicate verbally with people of various ages, educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds in patient, tactful, and courteous manner; Operate standard office equipment, computers, software; Perform work accuracy and attention to detail; Follow verbal and written instructions; Read and understand technical and general information; Accurately input information; Type at a minimum speed of 25 words per minute; Establish rapport and effective working relationships with other staff and the public; Retain and recall information; Recognize and maintain confidentiality of information in compliance with laws and department regulations; Drive or get transportation to locations throughout the county, even with same day notice; Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
